Opas Chotiphantawanon's latest exhibition - Colour of Life - illustrates the important influence the ocean and marine life has had upon the life of this Surat Thani-born artist. Featuring vivid acrylic paintings and oil pastel compositions, Opas taps into his rich imagination, along with his real-life experiences of the colorful undersea world. His compositions feature numerous species of fish and other creatures from the deep, along with various forms of plant life. Inspired by The Deep Colour of Life functions as a successful interpretation by the artist of the true beauty of the ocean and its teeming marine life. Filled with numerous forms of fish and plants, you may even spot a smiling face in amongst some of the artist's compositions. Perhaps this signifies the general sense of well being many people feel when experiencing the colorful undersea world up close. I certainly got the feeling when examining the artist's compositions that he truly appreciates how lucky he has been to have grown up by the sea. It also reminded me of how the ocean can bring out people's affectionate side. A Bright Future In my opinion, Colour of Life is a highly marketable body of work. Opas' work features slickly figurative, surrealistic scenes, generated by his own vivid imagination. The artist's style, with its colorful, instantly-recognizable undersea backdrops and distinct, colorful faces, has produced a sensational set of paintings. And while I can't guarantee you'll experience any goose bumps during this exhibition, I'm quite certain that you'll find plenty of opportunities to smile.
