SYDNEY (AFP) - Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe is to feature on Australia's latest postage stamp, mail officials said Thursday, in a series celebrating his portrayal of folk hero Robin Hood.
New Zealand-born Crowe, 46, who has taken Australian citizenship, produced and stars in Ridley Scott's re-imagining of the Sherwood Forest legend, due to open at France's Cannes Film Festival next week.
Australia Post said the stamps were a celebration of Crowe's achievements ahead of the much-anticipated "Robin Hood" premiere.
"The release of the film Robin Hood this month is of global interest, and we thought it would be very fitting to pay tribute to this great actor by producing the Robin Hood stamp pack in recognition of his talent and contribution to the film industry," said Australia Post's Noel Leahy.
Crowe, best known for his Academy award-winning role in "Gladiator", last month received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He has been featured on a postage stamp once previously as part of Australia's "Legends of the Screen" series.
